Carlo Cudicini and defender William Gallas have praised Tottenham's academy players following their display against Rubin Kazan in the Europa League last Thursday.

Despite losing 1-0 in Russia, the duo believe that manager Harry Redknapp should be pleased with the performances that they put in and should give him hope for the future.

Cudicini told the club's official website: “They have all done well.

"You have to remember these lads have come from Academy football into European football.

“They have a chance and I believe the manager has to be happy with their performances.”

Gallas made his first start of the season after returning from injury and is buoyed by the prospect of the club's youth set-up.

He said: “We played with a lot of young players but you can see they have quality and that’s good for the future of the club."

On the game itself, Cudicini was disappointed with not getting a result in Russia but the team had him to thank for keeping the score down after a solid display in goal.

He continued: "It was disappointing not to get a point against Rubin but the group is still wide open and we have to be confident."

Gallas believes Spurs can still qualify for the knockout stage of the competition even though the result has left them in third place in group.

He added: "The important thing is that we all move on from that game and make it into the next stage of the competition. We can do that."
