thumbnail Hello,

Dutchman's first game in charge of the Cottagers ends in comfortable win thanks to a three-goal margin, as his side look to emulate Europa League heroics of 2010

Goals from Damien Duff, Danny Murphy and Andy Johnson gave Fulham a 3-0 win in their first game of what is sure to be a busy season, as they defeated Nes Soknar Itrottarfelag in a Europa League first round qualifier.

It was Martin Jol's first game in charge and turned out to be a victorious one as they head into the second leg in the Faroe Islands next week with a comfortable lead.

Jol sent out a strong side in his first competitive match as Cottagers boss after taking over following Mark Hughes' resignation last month.

And his side took the lead in the first-half through midfielder Duff's left-footed strike from the edge of the penalty area following an assist from fellow midfielder Simon Davies.

They continued to boss the first half, allowing the visitors few chances as they slowly took control of tie following a good start by the Faroe Islanders - although an audacious shot from 30-yards out by Justinus Hansen had goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer scrambling across his goal line.

The home side extended their lead just before the hour mark courtesy of a penalty by captain Murphy, after Andrew Johnson, making a rare start in the starting line-up, was brought down in the box by Helgi Lamhauge Petersen.

Murphy dispatched the spot kick to double the lead.

The hosts continued to dominate thereafter and added gloss to their win as Johnson put away a third following work from striker Bobby Zamora, who was making his first start since injury last season.

The Cottagers take a three-goal advantage to the Faroe Islands next week, which is boosted by a clean sheet from Schwarzer.
