The Welshman popped up in the second half of extra-time to help Real Madrid come from behind to defeat Atletico Madrid in a dramatic final at Benfica's Estadio da Luz

Gareth Bale has joined the exclusive club of British Champions League winners with foreign teams after Real Madrid's 4-1 victory over Atletico Madrid in Saturday's final.

Diego Godin had given Atletico the lead in a thrilling encounter at Benfica's Estadio da Luz before Sergio Ramos powered home a late header to send the game to extra-time.

Bale then struck in the second half of extra-time to put Madrid in front before Marcelo and Cristiano Ronaldo added a third and fourth to secure La Decima for Carlo Ancelotti's side.

And the final victory sees Bale joins the likes of Paul Lambert and Steve McManaman, who won Europe's top prize in 2000 as Real Madrid defeated Valencia 3-0, on the elite list of British Champions League winners with foreign clubs.

Former Manchester United midfielder Owen Hargreaves is the other British player to have won the Champions League with an overseas team as he helped Bayern Munich triumph on penalties against Valencia back in 2001.
