A hat-trick from Alvaro Negredo and two goals from Sergio Aguero secured a 5-2 win over CSKA Moscow to fire City into the knockout stage of the competitionManuel Pellegrini believes Manchester City will be feared in the knockout stages of the Champions League.
City cruised into the last 16 after hammering CSKA Moscow 5-2 at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday with Alvaro Negredo scoring a hat-trick and Sergio Aguero netting twice.
City and reigning European champions Bayern Munich have qualified from Group D with two games to spare and Pellegrini believes his side will be a match for anyone in the next stage.
He said: "I’m very happy because this is an achievement the club didn’t do in the last two years – it’s not easy to do it,
"Two games before the group is finished and we are now in the last 16. It’s important for the fans, the staff, the players – everyone connected with the club.
"I don’t know if it’s a relief but it’s our first target for the year and I think to be in that stage is important for the club. I had a lot of trust that we could do it.
"I think that we have a strong squad and we’ll see where we can go in this Champions League.
"We will see what happens in the draw, we don’t know who we’ll play – but I am sure whoever we play won’t be happy to play against us."
