thumbnail Hello,

Real Sociedad face a trip to Old Trafford tonight and their captain believes a third defeat will wreck their hopes of making the Champions League knockout stages

Real Sociedad captain Xabi Prieto believes Wednesday night's clash with Manchester United is a matter of "life or death" for the Spaniards.

The Basque outfit have lost their opening two Champions League games to Bayer Leverkusen and Shakhtar Donetsk and find themselves bottom of Group A.

Prieto believes his side desperately need at least a point to kick-start their campaign and anything less will signal a premature end to their first season in the competition.

"We are really looking forward to this journey," he said. "Many fans are coming, and I hope we can have something to celebrate together.

"We know they are a huge and scary opponent, but also that if we lose it will be very difficult for us to qualify, so I hope we can play a great game. It is almost life or death - if we lose it will be very difficult for us, so we need to get a point at least to stay alive in the Champions League. It could be they are not playing as well as before. If we think they are bad, they could give us a good fright ourselves.

"I wanted to be back sooner - when I got injured I had in my head the game at Valencia, that I could play some minutes there. But I am very happy now, excited to be able to travel to Manchester. I am ready to play, maybe not for the 90 minutes, but the leg is good. I will respect Arrasate’s decision.”
