The Gunners have been drawn against the Super Lig runners up in a European playoff but will they find the quality to overcome their first hurdle in continental competition?
Having clinched the final Champions League place ahead of local-rivals Tottenham on the last day of the 2012-13 season, manager Arsene Wenger is hoping to guide his side into the group stages of the competition for what will be the 15th successive year.
However, a two-legged contest against Super Lig runners-up Fenerbahce stands in Wenger’s way, albeit subject to a hearing after the tie to determine whether the Turkish side's European ban for match-fixing still stands.
Fenerbahce – who can count on former Premier League stars Raul Meireles and Dirk Kuyt in their ranks – will host the first leg at the Sukru Saracoglu Stadium on either August 20 or 21, before travelling to the Emirates Stadium for the return leg a week later.
