Borussia Dortmund have been dealt a blow with the news Mats Hummels could miss their Champions League quarter-final clashes after being ruled out for a month with an ankle injury picked up on Saturday.
Jurgen Klopp’s side were defeated 2-1 at Schalke in the Revierderby, and the Germany international had to be withdrawn at half-time due to a problem picked up in the first 45 minutes.
BVB fans will have hoped that the 24-year-old would be back in action in time for their next European clash in early April, but Hummels has torn his right ankle ligament and could, as a result, miss both quarter-final games.
Klopp’s side thrashed Shakhtar Donetsk 3-0 on Wednesday to win 5-2 on aggregate in the last 16 and secure their spot in the last eight of the competition.
However, Dortmund medical staff member Dr. Markus Braun has confirmed that the centre-back is looking at a mid-May return.
