“They weren’t carving us open, they were generally just playing in front of our defenders, across the width of the pitch. We were comfortable with that.
“I felt we looked very comfortable and we gave a good account of ourselves. We could have scored five or six goals.”
The Scot also feels that, had his strikers been on top form in their first-leg tie, then United would have returned home with a massive win.
He added: “Unusually for Robin van Persie, he missed two great opportunities and their goalkeeper made a couple of good saves.
“Danny Welbeck also missed one just before half-time. We perhaps should have won the game.”
