The Bavarian giants' former skipper is confident that his old club have enough quality to overcome the Premier League side at home and away in the Champions League

Former Bayern Munich captain Thomas Helmer believes that his old club have enough quality to get past Arsenal and into the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

The 47-year-old, who made over 200 appearances for the German league leaders, is confident that Jupp Heynckes's men will be able to win both at home and away in their last-16 clash.

Helmer told TZ Online: "That should not be a problem. Arsenal always play well but they are never dangerous. I would not be surprised if Bayern not only win their home tie but also the away game in London.

"At the moment you have to say Bayern are playing well in every competition. The coach is doing everything right, the mood in the team is superb, does the game system - and they have no injuries.

"So it is once again it rests on Bayern Munich having to defend the honour of the German clubs in Europe after the weak Europa League results."

Bayern will be looking to finish the season in style, with the Champions League trophy providing a perfect platform for the departure of Jupp Heynckes, who is set to retire at the end of the season and make way for the arrival of Pep Guardiola.
