Chelsea will be 'under pressure from supporters', says Shakhtar boss Lucescu

The 67-year-old coach believes the Stamford Bridge crowd's expectations may hinder the west London side when they take on the Ukrainian outfit in the Champions League
Shakhtar Donetsk boss Mircea Lucescu has insisted that Chelsea will be under huge pressure from their own fans during Wednesday night’s crucial Champions League Group E tie.

Lucescu’s men beat the Blues 2-1 in Ukraine two weeks ago and the Romanian believes his side are in good shape to cause another upset against the holders.

“I'm not so interested in who plays for Chelsea because they will play under pressure from their supporters,” Lucescu told reporters.

“It's difficult to play in the Champions League; when you play in the league you can rectify mistakes but you don't get a second chance in Europe.

“We are in good form, our players know it's a very important match, but I think the people will enjoy tomorrow's game.

“It will be a good game. For Chelsea, it could be their last chance to go through, and Roberto Di Matteo has already said that after the final in Munich this is one of their most important games."

Chelsea have not lost a Champions League group match at Stamford Bridge since 2003, when they suffered a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Lucescu-managed Besiktas.

But the 67-year-old has played down the significance of boasting that honour.

He added: “It's a completely different team. They were a very good side under [Claudio] Ranieri, we came here to play our game and succeeded, it was a big win for Beskitas.

“I prepare my players to know that every team can be beaten, even Chelsea at home.”

Meanwhile, Brazilian forward Willian believes the Ukrainian side must be on their guard as Wednesday’s opponents will provide a stern test – even in the absence of defender Ashley Cole.

He said: “It's a very important match for us, we respect Chelsea, they are very strong at home, the crowd will put pressure on us from the start but we hope we can get the win.

“Chelsea have good players and whoever replaces him [Cole] will play well, Ashley is a very good player but I'm sure it's not going to change the match.”
