Luiz doubtful for Champions League tie with Barcelona after picking up hamstring injury in FA Cup semi-final

Chelsea boss Roberto di Matteo has confirmed the defender will need to be assessed ahead of Wednesday's match at Stamford Bridge following Sunday's 5-1 win over Spurs
David Luiz looks set to miss Chelsea's midweek Champions League semi-final first leg clash with Barcelona after he was stretchered off with a hamstring strain during the 5-1 FA Cup semi-final victory over Tottenham on Sunday.

The Brazilian was injured in the build-up to Tottenham’s 56th minute goal scored by Gareth Bale, which temporarily pulled Spurs back into the game at 2-1, before goals from Ramires, Lampard and Malouda sealed the win.

The former Benfica man was replaced by centre-back Gary Cahill after receiving treatment on the pitch, with boss Roberto di Matteo confirming after the game that Luiz is a doubt for Wednesday's tie.

"Luiz picked up a hamstring injury and we will have to assess him tomorrow but he looks doubtful for the next game," Di Matteo said.

The 24-year-old has become a regular in Chelsea line-up despite often being criticised for his defensive style since his arrival at Stamford Bridge back in January 2010.

The Blues will now take on Liverpool in May's FA Cup final, following Kenny Dalglish's side's 2-1 win over Everton on Saturday.
