Edwin van der Sar hailed Manchester United hero Park Ji-Sung as “amazing” after the South Korean sealed the club's progress to the Champions League semi-final.
Park scored a winner in the 77th minute as United beat Chelsea 2-1 at Old Trafford on Tuesday night to complete a 3-1 victory on aggregate in the quarter-final tie.
“Ji is unbelievable,” said United goalkeeper Van der Sar. “He was amazing. He was everywhere – tackling at the front and the back and giving excellent passes.
“We really missed him when he was out during the Asia Cup earlier in the year and then he got an injury. It's great to have him back."
Park, 30, scored the decisive goal of the night within a minute of Didier Drogba's strike which equalised the score on the night and gave Chelsea hope of turning the tie around. Javier Hernandez had put United into a 2-0 lead in the tie with a close-range effort two minutes before the break.
Sir Alex Ferguson's side will now face either Schalke or Inter in the last four, with the German giants holding a 5-2 advantage following the first leg in Milan.
Van der Sar, 40, was delighted that United came through the challenge against Premier League rivals Chelsea but is determined to compete for European glory before he retires at the end of the season.
“It's going to be a tough game whether we play Schalke or Inter produce a surprise,” added the Dutchman. “It will be a great game – we managed to get a win against Chelsea and now the big games are coming thick and fast.
“Sometimes things like luck count. Maybe we were a little bit lucky in the away leg at Chelsea last week.
“We have done a professional job, we took our chances well. We had a little scare when Drogba scored the equaliser but we scored straight after that and it was game over.
“We are not thinking about winning the treble and will only think about our next game – which is the FA Cup semi-final against Manchester City on Saturday.”
