Ukrainian team's boss congratulates the opposition for their comprehensive victory over the two legs in the quarter-finals of Europe’s premier club competition
Shakhtar Donetsk coach Mircea Lucescu is graceful in accepting his side's defeat to Barcelona in the quarter-finals of the Champions League, and hopes that the Spanish club win the competition this season.
The Ukrainian champions went down 1-0 at home in the second-leg of their quarter-final tie to go out of the last eight 6-1 on aggregate.
Lucescu had no complaint after his side’s comprehensive defeat over the two legs, and is quoted by Eurosport.fr as saying: "I congratulate Barcelona for qualifying and I hope that they win the Champions League.
"This was a spectacular match. In spite of the large number of players missing from our side, we had more chances than any team should normally have against Barcelona.
"This was a great opportunity to play against Barca, and this will be a useful experience for our young team for next season.”
Shakhtar’s appearance in the last eight of the Champions League this season was their first in history.
