thumbnail Hello,

Spanish winger grew up watching Welsh wonder...

Valencia winger Juan Mata has admitted that he is a huge fan of Manchester United’s legendary veteran Ryan Giggs, and expressed his disappointment that the Welshman will not feature in this Wednesday’s Champions League encounter between the teams.

Giggs has remained in England after being deemed unfit to travel to the Mestalla, and so the Spanish international will have to wait for the second meeting between the two sides to get the opportunity to face his boyhood idol.

Speaking in an interview with AS, Mata stated that because both he and the Red Devils hero were predominantly left-sided, he used to enjoy following him, saying: “I used to talk about Giggs a lot, because he was left footed like me and I used to watch his movements.

“It is a pity that he won’t play, because I would have loved to change my shirt with him.”

Mata also assessed why Los Che are performing to a higher standard this season despite losing two of their prized assets in the form of David Villa and David Silva during the summer.

He continued: “It is clear that Villa and Silva were important to us, but the club has done well this summer and has been successful with their signings.

“The squad is very balanced, and in the dressing room we are very confident of our chances. Valencia are going well.”
