Knock sidelines Spaniard...
Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos has been ruled out of this evening's Champions League clash with Ajax after sustaining a calf injury during training. The Spanish international felt discomfort in the muscle on Tuesday, and the pain has increased to the extent that his non-participation in the clash at the Santiago Bernabeu has been confirmed.
If the injury continues to cause Ramos pain, he could well be missing from the trip to San Sebastian to face Real Sociedad at the weekend, but he will have to undergo a thorough medical examination in order to assess the full extent of the injury.
Alvaro Arbeloa is expected to deputise at full-back, with Pepe, Ricardo Carvalho and Marcelo, who played in the match versus Osasuna on Saturday, making up the remainder of the back line.
Jose Mourinho already has injury problems in his defence, with Raul Albiol and Ezequiel Garay both unavailable for selection, and Ramos is the latest name to miss out.
Ramos was one of the stars of the 2010 World Cup. According to the Castrol Rankings’ statistical analysis of the tournament, the defender was the best performer in South Africa this summer.
