The last train from London to Manchester on the day of the final leaves at 21.00BST while Wigan fans will have to board a train back at 20.31BST at the latest.
With a 90-minute final set to finish at around 19.15BST, fans could potentially be stranded after leaving the stadium - especially if the game goes to extra time or penalties.
City will be hoping to clinch their second FA Cup in three years while the Latics dream of winning the trophy for the first time in their history.
The 2013 winners will receive £1.8 million from the FA Cup prize fund, while the runners-up will earn £900,000.
