The ex-Wigan defender warns that the Toffees must start claiming trophies, otherwise the current team will not be remembered - unlike the cup-winning 'dogs of war' of 1995

Leighton Baines warns that Everton's form this season will all count for nothing if they fail to lift a trophy at the end of the campaign.

4/1 Everton are 4/1 with BetVictor to win the FA Cup this season
The FA Cup represents the Toffees' last chance of silverware in 2012-13, invoking memories of their last win in the competition 18 years ago.

"I still remember going to the 1995 cup final and I'd fancy our chances against that team, no disrespect to them," Baines told The Independent.

"They had a good team then and we've got a good team now but they will be remembered because of what they achieved and that surpasses anything.

"If anyone wants to stake a claim to being better than them, well, prove it then because they went there and did it and unless we do that we can't talk about being better than them. If you don't achieve anything then you are not going to get remembered."

Everton last reached the final in 2009, when they lost 2-1 to Chelsea despite Louis Saha scoring the fastest-ever cup-final goal after just 25 seconds.
