Ryo Miyaichi could return from injury to join new Wigan signings Angelo Henriquez and Roger Espinoza in contention for a starting place in the FA Cup tie with Bournemouth on Saturday.
The forward is currently on loan at the DW Stadium from fellow Premier League side Arsenal but has made just six appearances since joining the Latics in the summer.
Roberto Martinez has, however, revealed that the Japanese winger could well may his long-awaited return against the League One side.
"Ryo has a chance for the FA Cup game," the Spaniard told reporters.
"He is 80 per cent of his full fitness and is joining the main group this week. We hope he is going to be back very soon."
The 20-year-old may therefore join Honduras international Espinoza, signed from MLS outfit Sporting Kansas City, in contention for a starting place in the home tie at the weekend.
Another player who is in line to make his first appearance for the Latics in the clash with the Cherries is Henriquez, a recent loan signing from Manchester United.
The 18-year-old joined the Red Devils from Universidad de Chile in September 2012, and Martinez is looking forward to seeing the highly-rated Chile forward in action, indicating he will feature on Saturday.
"We're really excited about Angelo because he is a very young man with a huge potential," he added.
"He is a goalscorer with clever movement inside the box and has had a very successful time with his former club Universidad.
"We hope to have a good partnership in terms of allowing Angelo to develop as a footballer and learn of the demands of the English game, because I feel he can bring us something different in the forward line.
"Saturday will provide him with the perfect opportunity to begin his experiences on the pitch in English football."
