Paul Lambert believes Premier League experience helped Norwich City overcome Burnley in FA Cup
The Scot was delighted as his Canaries recorded a clear win at Carrow Road, with opposite number Eddie Howe admitting that he hopes to emulate the example set by the hosts

The Canaries dropped four points to the Clarets in the Championship last season but were comfortable winners this time round after securing promotion, and the Scot feels that his side deserved their victory.
“I’m delighted, I thought we deserved to win the game. It doesn’t matter how you win as long as you get through it, but I thought we dominated the game from start to finish,” Lambert told reporters after the game.
“The Premier League does that to teams,” he added of his side’s improvement after promotion.
“The level and intensity that you play at makes everybody step up to the plate and it’s important that we never come below that.
“We had two really tough games against Burnley last year but I thought we played some really good football. We played with some high tempo as we always try to do."
Despite Norwich’s flying start to life in the top flight, Lambert admitted that staying up is his priority while still trying to progress as much as possible in the FA Cup.
“I’m under no illusions. We want to stay in [the Premier League] but you don’t take the cup competition lightly,” he stated.
“It’s a competition that we want to try to do well in but the main concern is the league.”
Asked about 20-year-old loanee Tom Adeyemi, the subject of alleged racial abuse while playing for temporary club Oldham against Liverpool on Friday night, Lambert would not be drawn on the incident but stressed that the youngster, who was seen tears during the game, was feeling better.
“I spoke to him after the game and he’s OK,” he said.
“I can’t comment on what’s actually happened. Tom’s OK, which is the most important thing.
“What’s happened out there is a private conversation, and I’m sure that Liverpool will investigate it and deal with it accordingly.”
Defeated manager Eddie Howe was accepting of the thrashing, admitting that the diamond formation employed by Lambert’s men had made life difficult for the Clarets.
“We started well and created a couple of good chances but we conceded two poor goals from our point of view,” he conceded.
“We did really well to get ourselves back in the game so early on after conceding the two, which showed good character, but then the second half was difficult and once they got the third goal it was game over.
“We ended up changing the system a couple of times to try to combat their diamond. It’s a difficult system to play against, especially with such good players.”
After the Canaries’ meteoric rise up the leagues without a massive budget, Howe admitted his admiration for the work done at Carrow Road.
“We have to look at Norwich as our role model, really, we want to emulate them and the success they’ve had coming from League One,” the 34-year-old boss continued.
“Their team spirit is something that really stands out, so there’s a lot of things to look at and say ‘that’s the route that we want to take’.”
