The Kuwaiti owners are looking to secure promotion in the Premier League, but insist their ambition is to get the Reds back in Europe and challenging for a "third star"

Nottingham Forest chairman Fawaz Al Hasawi has signalled his intention to get the club back into Europe, with a bold five-year plan to make it happen.

The Kuwaiti owners, who took charge of the Reds last summer, have revealed their ambitious plans to get the Championship side back into the Premier League, and believe they can challenge for European honours within the next five to six years.

A resurgent Forest currently sit sixth and in a play-off position under Billy Davies, and Al Hasawi insists he is excited about the future of the club.

He told Sky Sports: "When we go to the Premier League, we would like to stay in the Premier League. We don't want to go to the Premier League and the next year we go back to the Championship.

"We will try to stay in the Premier League, so when we go there we have to have a plan about how to stay in the Premier League. Maybe it will happen, but how are we going to stay there? That is what we are thinking about."

When asked whether he harboured ambitions of taking Forest back into Europe's premier club competition, the Champions League, Al Hasawi replied: "Of course. Maybe not the first year, but we have that ambition.

"We want to take Forest to the European Championship, where they were before. Maybe we will have a third star.

"You never know, this is football. Maybe it will happen, but not this year or the next. The plan might be five or six years from now. Why not?"
