Blackburn manager Berg remains positive despite poor results

The Norwegian manager insists that his side can still gain promotion from the Championship even though the pre-season favourites have won only seven of their first 21 games
Blackburn Rovers boss Henning Berg has won just one game since taking over from Steve Kean in November, but insists that the team can still challenge for promotion this season.

The former Premier League side were hammered 4-1 by league leaders Cardiff at Ewood Park on Friday but Berg still claims that his side can meet their pre-season expectations.

Berg told Sky Sports: "The target is still promotion. Of course we have put ourselves in maybe a more difficult position than we would have liked, there is no doubt about that.

"We are assessing things as we go on and we will make sure that we do the right things in the future - improving the team, improving the squad, making sure we put us in a position where we can be promoted.

"No one has ever said anything about it being easy and we just have to make sure that we keep our heads and are doing the right things.

"Yes we are disappointed with some of the performances [but] at the same time we are not a million miles away.

"We played the league leaders in a tight and even game football-wise, which ended not an even game in terms of the result.

"It's not that many things that we need to do better in order to win football matches."
