thumbnail Hello,

The former Manchester United youth player made his second start for the Blues on Saturday and has the same natural ability as the former England international according to his boss

Birmingham City manager Lee Clark says that young midfielder Ravel Morrison reminds him of former England international Paul Gascoigne at a similar age.

Morrison impressed on his second start for the Blues as they drew 1-1 with Championship leaders Leicester City at St Andrew's on Saturday.

Clark played alongside Gascoigne at Newcastle United and believes that the 19-year-old, who is on loan from West Ham, has the same natural ability and love for football.

"I can comment because I was around Paul Gascoigne at the same age," Clark told reporters. "They have the same natural ability. He just goes past people with ease; as if they're not there. He sees a pass quickly and he can deliver the pass.

"Paul only had his problems later in life when he picked up the injuries. But he's so much like Rav – they're at their happiest when they're on the football pitch. They love it in a genuine way and not because of the trappings that come with it."

Morrison was highly-regarded as a youth player at Manchester United but was sold to the Hammers after frequent reports of disciplinary issues.

In 2011 he admitted two counts of witness intimidation and earlier this year was fined by the Football Association for making a homophobic threat on Twitter but Clark has no concerns regarding the playmaker's behaviour.

"He's had publicity before he's come here away from the pitch but I've never seen any of that," the former Huddersfield Town manager commented.

"There hasn't been a minute's problem. Sometimes when he gets disappointed if he's not in the starting XI, it affects his training performances. But I think he's shown people what he's about."
