The younger brother of the Manchester United star striker has impressed on a trial at Oakwell, and will now return to England after a spell at American side Orlando CityManchester United striker Wayne Rooney's brother John will sign a deal taking him to Barnsley until the end of the season according to manager Keith Hill.
The brother of the Red Devils and England forward has had a successful month long trial at Oakwell and the club have confirmed they plan to offer the 21-year-old a permanent contract, which is subject to international clearance.
The young midfielder has had spells with Macclesfield Town, prior to stints at American clubs New York Red Bulls and most recently Orlando City, but he is now set to return to England to join the Championship side.
"John Rooney is going to sign with us until the end of the season," Hill told the Barnsley Chronicle.
"He's worth taking a punt on and we can develop him. I'm not sure how long it will take for the international clearance to come through."
