In the Championship, Brighton went two points clear at the top of the table following a 2-1 victory over Millwall at the New Den.
The points were all but secure for Gus Poyet's side by the time Adam El-Abd swept home from close range after the Lions failed to clear their lines on 50 minutes to add to Ashley Barnes 17th minute opener.
Chris Taylor was dismissed late on for the home side, who were well beaten by an impressive display from the visitors, but a Chris Wood goal ten minutes from time set up a tense finale.
Meanwhile, Peterborough continued their dismal start to the season as they were beaten 2-0 by Wolves at London Road and remained the only team in the Championship to have not won a single point after seven games.
They were joined in the bottom three by Ipswich Town as the pressure on Paul Jewell grows after slipping to a 2-1 defeat to Charlton at Portman Road, with only a Jason Scotland goal on 57 minutes to give the home side something to cheer about.
There were also a good win for Crystal Palace, who came back from two goals down thanks to a Glenn Murray hat-trick completing a comeback against Cardiff City at Selhurst Park, and three points each for Leeds United, Burnley and Bolton, whilst Watford drew at home to Bristol City.
