Ipswich sign Stoke City defender Higginbotham on one-month loan deal

The defender has been drafted in by Tractor Boys boss Paul Jewell on an emergency basis as they look to find some form, languishing in 23rd place in the Championship
Ipswich Town have signed Stoke City defender Danny Higginbotham on an emergency one-month loan deal.

The 33-year-old defender will join up with his new team mates in time to play for the Tractor Boys against Charlton Athletic at Portman Road on Sunday.

The centre-back's experience is set to boost an Ipswich side who have only won one of their opening six games of the Championship season, lying 23rd in the table, above only pointless Peterborough.

Higginbotham only made 11 appearances for Stoke last season and could face his former team mate at the Britannia Stadium, Ricardo Fuller, who signed for Charlton during the summer transfer window.

The 33-year-old has previously turned out for Manchester United, Antwerp, Derby, Southampton, Sunderland and Nottingham Forest.
