Burnley have accepted a bid of £7m for striker Jay Rodriguez from Southampton, according to the London Evening Standard.

The Clarets forward has been in deadly form this season, grabbing 21 goals - including five in the League Cup - despite being in and out of the treatment room since March.

Southampton are looking to strengthen their squad after gaining promotion to the Premier League by securing a second-placed finish on the final day of the campaign.

The Saints moved for Rodriguez a year ago, but were rebuffed after their bid failed to meet the Lancashire outfit's valuation.

Provided the deal goes through, it will surpass Burnley's transfer record of £6.5million - set when Scotland international Steve Fletcher moved to Wolves just two years previously.

Rodriguez is reportedly out of the country at present and has yet to discuss personal terms with with the south coast side.
