Nottingham Forest hand trials to Sweden starlets Emilio Rossi and Sandeep Monkoo
Championship outfit assessing the Scandinavian talents after Sunderland opted against signing the BK Hacken attacker and ‘assured’ GAIS defender
By Richard Parry
Nottingham Forest have handed trials to promising Sweden prospects Emilio Rossi and Sandeep Monkoo.
Rossi, a left winger by trade, spent a week on trial at Sunderland with BK Hacken team-mate Nikola Ladan in November, but the Black Cats opted against a permanent deal, while Everton also sent scouts to assess the prospects.
The pair have both featured for their country at youth level, while Monkoo – a 19-year-old centre back – is expected to be promoted to the Sweden Under-21s in the near future.
Monkoo, raised in Gothenburg by his India parents, was loaned out to Swedish second division side Qviding FIF last season, where he made 16 first team appearances. He has since rejected a contract extension from GAIS, with his agent insisting that the player is eyeing a move to England.
“The boys have settled down well and have been shown fantastic hospitality by Nottingham Forest FC,” their representative, Godfrey K Torto, told Goal.com.
“I think the week ahead holds much promise, with Forest having a long history of being a footballing club, and both of these boys fit into that mould.
“Emilio can attack, beat defenders and excite people, where as Sandeep is a very assured defender for his age who can play the ball out from the back.”
