West Ham boss Sam Allardyce has said that he made an enquiry into a possible loan deal for Arsenal defender Sebastien Squillaci, but a technical difficulty denied the move.

The 31-year-old has only made one appearance this season for the Gunners, in the League Cup, and it has been reported that a short-term move to Upton Park could be a possibility.

Allardyce told Sky Sports: "Yes it is true, but the technical difficulty was that another loan would have meant that he couldn't go anywhere else this season.

"We couldn't go any further with that, unfortunately."

The defender joined the north London outfit in 2010 from Sevilla and has made 33 appearances for the club, but his opportunities this season have been limited due to injury and the new signing of Per Mertesacker.

West Ham already have two players on loan from Arsene Wenger's side, goalkeeper Manuel Almunia and midfielder Henri Lansbury, who scored a goal in his debut at Upton Park in the 4-3 win over Portsmouth in September.
