Liverpool’s Charlie Adam backs Scotland team-mate Craig Mackail-Smith to become a Premier League striker as West Ham defeat Brighton

Anfield's Scottish midfielder has praised the attitude and determination of Brighton's record signing after impressive display despite his side's defeat

Liverpool’s Charlie Adam has praised the attitude and determination of his fellow Scot, Craig Mackail-Smith after an impressive display against West Ham.

The Hammers secured a 1-0 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion with a first-half goal from Kevin Nolan, but the hosts will be disappointed to have not got at least a point after they dominated for large periods of the game.

Brighton’s record signing was a constant thorn in West Ham’s side and went close in the first-half with a dipping volley which was well saved by Manuel Almunia, and Mackail-Smith continued to be a nuisance in the second half but Sam Allardyce’s side held on for a victory which puts them second in the Championship.

Liverpool’s Adam tweeted after the game: “Mackail-Smith just never stops running, definitely be in the Premiership soon.”
