Crystal Palace complete shock swoop for Netherlands legend Edgar Davids on pay-as-you-play deal
Former Tottenham midfielder makes Eagles move...
The 37-year-old trained with his new team-mates on Friday and will be in attendance on Saturday afternoon for the match against Ipswich Town.
Speaking to the club's official website, Davids revealed his delight at becoming a Crystal Palace player.
He said: "It is an exciting time for the football club, and it is an exciting time for me. I just want to enjoy football and show the best I can do."
The former Dutch international refuted any ideas that he wasn't ready to take part in Palace's Championship campaign.
"I'm sharp and fit," he added to Sky Sports News. "I've been training with Ajax the last few weeks. "The Championship is one of the strongest leagues in the world, after the Premier League. "If you look at the Serie A and Serie B, and at the Primera Division and the league under that, they're not as strong as the Championship. "It's really, really physical so it's going to be a big challenge for me and I'm not going to underestimate it." And, like many of the players were when news broke of his arrival, Davids is excited at the chance to get playing again. "It feels pretty good, I was very excited," he said. "I know Crystal Palace fom when I was a kid, with Wright and Bright and I already live in London so it'll be fun to play again. "It's not about what I can offer the club - we have to do it together and make sure we have good spells and a bright future." And with injury to Lee Hills, Davids is even prepared to do a shift at left-back. Nice one! "I can play left-back, I can play midfield and I can play left or right wing - it's up to where the team needs me, and I just want to enjoy myself," he added. "I was already retired but I talked with some friends and with George. He was excited and he said just to have fun, give it your all and see what it leads to."
This will be the Dutch international's second stint in English football after spending two seasons with Tottenham from 2005 to 2007.
Davids' last professional season as a professional was with Ajax in 2008.
