George Burley confirms Crystal Palace are in talks to sign former Tottenham & Juventus midfielder Edgar Davids
Dutchman could be set for shock return to football...
By Kevin Emery
The 37-year-old midfielder has been linked with a move to Selhurst Park, with reports suggesting that he is looking to settle in London and get back into the game after a two-year absence.
Davids is currently training with Ajax to get himself fit and Palace are thought to be looking at a pay-as-you-play deal for the former Ajax, AC Milan, Juventus, Barcelona, Inter Milan and Tottenham star, who has earned more than 70 caps for Holland.
The former Holland international has been a free agent since leaving Ajax, where he had spent a second spell in 2008 and came close to joining Leicester City last autumn before the club withdrew their offer.
Burley told the Evening Standard: "This is to do with a friend of a mate who knows Edgar and it was mentioned that he might like to start playing again.
"Edgar has a home in London and he's talking about starting to play again. But it hasn't gone much further than that.
"There is a long way between wanting to play again after two years of retirement and getting involved in a tough league like the Championship."
