The 26-year-old recently left Gers after much speculation surrounding his future, and has since then gone on to join the Teessiders.
But the forward, who had been linked with a move to Turkish side Kayserispor prior to his transfer, conceded that he turned down a £50,000-a-week deal before signing for his current club.
"It was a get-rich-quick thing, but didn’t interest me," said Boyd, according to The Mirror.
"I have two young kids and the missus to think about.
"It’s more important that you’re a father to them. Coming here, we’ll still be together."
