Ferdinand trolled by Carragher ahead of Liverpool-Man Utd

Former defenders engage in Twitter squabble as the clock ticks down to Monday's eagerly-anticipated Premier League meeting at Anfield

Fireworks are to be expected when Liverpool and Manchester United lock horns in the heat of Premier League battle on Monday , but the fuse has already been lit on Twitter by former stars on opposing sides of the north-west divide.

Ex-United centre-back Ferdinand sparked the exchange, as he invited old adversary Jamie Carragher to turn the clock back to an Old Trafford trip he would rather forget from September 2004.

The Anfield stalwart took the bait, but hit back with a couple of stinging rebukes to establish the upper-hand in the social media squabble – questioning why Ferdinand would choose to use a picture from a season in which Chelsea took the top-flight crown to support an argument regarding trophy wins.
