thumbnail Hello,

The England international has been on form in pre-season while the Dutchman, after an impressive World Cup under Louis van Gaal, has been on an extended break

Manchester United complete their pre-season campaign at home against Valencia this evening as new manager Louis van Gaal makes his much anticipated Old Trafford bow.

The Red Devils have made a bright start to life under the Dutchman with Wayne Rooney in particularly potent form. The England international has recovered from his poor World Cup to score five goals in as many games.

Robin van Persie, meanwhile, has been granted an extended break following his exploits in Brazil this summer and is likely to miss the opening week of the season before he is united in tandem with Rooney at the head of Van Gaal’s attack.

Van Persie has top scored for United in each of his two seasons with the 20-times champions but will he make it a hat-trick of sorts,  or does Rooney’s pre-season form suggest  he will outscore the former Arsenal captain this time around?
