The two ex-Barcelona stars have both swapped Camp Nou for London, joining Arsenal and Chelsea respectively, but who can have the bigger impact in the Premier League?
Arsenal have splashed the cash for a second summer running, confirming the £31.8 million capture of Barcelona’s Alexis Sanchez on Thursday evening.
The Gunners had the opportunity to sign the Chilean’s former Camp Nou team-mate Cesc Fabregas earlier this summer, but Arsene Wenger opted against bringing his former skipper back to north London.
Instead, Chelsea and Jose Mourinho capitalised on Arsenal’s decision to shun Fabregas, bringing the midfielder to the club on the eve of the World Cup, while the Gunners pulled off a stunning coup of their own to sign Alexis barely a month later.
But, which club has signed the more accomplished player and who will perform best for their club’s next season?
Alexis scored 19 goals in La Liga last term, a figure only Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and Diego Costa bettered – though the Chilean actually scored from open play at a faster rate than the brawny Spain striker.
Fabregas, meanwhile, recorded the second-most assists in the division, behind only Real Madrid’s Angel Di Maria, while no player in Europe’s top five leagues played more through balls.
Was Wenger right to pass on Fabregas and sign Alexis instead? Can the 25-year-old outperform Fabregas next season? And, which player is most suited to their new club?
