Barcelona likelier destination for Luis Suarez than Real Madrid - Calderon

The controversial Liverpool forward has interested both Spanish giants but Los Blancos' former president thinks that his old team have plenty enough talent up front
Liverpool striker Luis Suarez is likely to join Barcelona, says former Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon.

The Uruguay international, whose alleged bite on Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini has plunged him back into controversy, helped fire the Reds to second place in the Premier League in 2013-14.

8/11 Luis Suarez is 8/11 with Bet365 to have left Liverpool by September 1
La Liga's great rivals are both reportedly interested in the forward, assuming that his club career is not affected by any Fifa sanctions, but Calderon feels that an abundance of forwards at the Santiago Bernabeu makes a switch to Barca more plausible.

He told talkSPORT of Suarez: "He is one of the best players in the world in his position. Both teams were interested in him.

"Real Madrid already have Karim Benzema at the moment and he's also a very good striker. I don't see any reason why they would change their strikers.

"It seems Barcelona are close to him, he is looking at going there.

"We also know he is close to Barcelona because his wife is from there and, I believe, his children were born there.

"Barcelona need him more than Real Madrid. They have Gareth Bale, Cristiano Ronaldo and Benzema. Barcelona need a player like him much more."
