Reports have suggested that Pochettino will utilise double training sessions in order to whip the squad into shape – as he did at Southampton – but he has told the players that they "don't have to be afraid" ahead of pre-season training.
"The players don't have to be afraid," he added. "Our style is demanding sometimes but we use common sense. We demand a lot from them.
"Our style, our philosophies, suffer in the training for it to show during the game but the players don't have to be afraid because we work with common sense all the time.
"We can only expect, from the players, full commitment and a positive attitude."
Pochettino guided Southampton to an eighth-placed finish in 2013-14 and will hope to deliver Champions League football to Spurs this season, with the north Londoners having finished sixth in their last campaign.
