Everton target Welbeck should leave Manchester United, say readers

The 23-year-old has grown disillusioned with a lack of playing time as a central striker in recent months and almost two thirds of voters believe he should depart Old Trafford

Everton target Danny Welbeck should leave Manchester United this summer, according to Goal readers.

Welbeck has grown frustrated with a lack of playing time in his preferred position as a central striker at Old Trafford, with both Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie ahead of him in the pecking order.

The 23-year-old was widely reported to be considering his future at United prior to the sacking of David Moyes in April, and refused to commit himself to the club when questioned by reporters earlier this week.

Welbeck's situation has attracted the interest of Everton boss Roberto Martinez, who Goal reported on Wednesday is targeting the 23-year-old as he prepares for life without Chelsea loanee Romelu Lukaku.

And 64.3 per cent of readers who voted in our poll believe Welbeck should depart Old Trafford this summer, with only 35.7% saying he should stay and fight for his place under new boss Louis van Gaal.
