Van Gaal has won a number of titles already in his career - with success at Ajax, AZ, Barcelona and Bayern Munich - but just 24.1 per cent of voters have backed him to guide United to league success in 12 months' time.
The best the 62-year-old can hope for is a return to the Champions League, with 48.5% of those polled backing the club to finish in the top four.
United missed out on European qualification this season - the first time they have achieved that undesirable feat in 25 years - and 19.5% of our readers believe they will clinch a place in the Europa League come the end of next term.
A seventh-placed finish under David Moyes marked United's worst-ever finish in the Premier League, and 3.6% feel the club will not improve upon that - possibly dropping as low as 10th.
Finally, 4.2% of voters have backed United to drop into the bottom half of the table as Van Gaal suffers an even more torrid time than Moyes.
