In April, Goal exclusively revealed that the youngster was set for a shock call-up to Hodgson's provisional 30-man squad, and his chances have increased after Manchester United's Phil Jones picked up a shoulder injury in midweek.

"Stonesy has only played half the season for us and even though he's a special talent, we need to him mature and not put pressure on his shoulders now," Distin told reporters.
"It's way too early.
"Stonesy has been amazing since he started playing for us, that's for sure.
"But it's a bit too soon. You need to give players a bit of time. It's the same for Ross [Barkley] in a way. You need one or two seasons to be able to judge a player and know really what he's made of.
"If he does get a call-up though, we all believe in him. If that happened, he'd deserve it and he'd have the support of everyone at Everton for certain."
Everton manager Roberto Martinez disagreed with the veteran French defender though, insisting that Stones would be "ready" should Hodgson pick him for Brazil.
