Fantasy Football Gameweek 33 Review: Two-goal Mata and Puncheon star

The pair both netted braces over the weekend, along with Steven Gerrard, while several defenders endured a miserable gameweek

He may have had a slow start to his Manchester United career but Juan Mata (10) showed the sort of form that persuaded the Red Devils to splash out £37.1m on the Spaniard in the January transfer window.

The former Chelsea man scored twice before setting up Adnan Januzaj with a delicious backheel as United sauntered to a 4-0 win over Newcastle at St James' Park.

Hot on his heels was Jason Puncheon (5) who also scored twice as Crystal Palace poured misery on struggling Cardiff City. The winger opened the scoring from close range before curling home the third goal to finish the contest in some style.

Not to be outdone, Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard (8) also bagged himself a double as the Reds beat West Ham 2-1 to earn himself 12 points but more importantly of course, return his side to the top of the table.

Chelsea new-boy Mohamed Salah (7), meanwhile, made his first Premier League start for the Blues, opening the scoring against Stoke before winning a penalty to inspire Jose Mourinho's men to a much-needed victory.

On Monday evening, Emmanuel Adebayor (7) scored a double against Sunderland while team-mate Christain Eriksen (7.5) set up two and bagged one of his own.

West Ham goalkeeper Adrian (3.5) did not enjoy his best afternoon as his side fell to a 2-1 home defeat to Liverpool. The Spaniard was beaten by a Steven Gerrard penalty just before half-time before being penalised for bringing down Jon Flanagan and conceding a spot-kick in the second half. The Reds skipper duly despatched his second kick, leaving Adrian, who was also booked, with -1 points.

Another player in minus numbers is Stoke defender Andy Wilkinson (4) who only featured in the second half but conceded a penalty, tripping Mohamed Salah, as the Potters crashed to a 3-0 defeat to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Southampton defender Jose Fonte (4) was another defender who endured a miserable afternoon as the Saints were beaten 4-1 by Manchester City. Fonte was guilty of giving away a penalty after just three minutes after tangling with Edin Dzeko, which Yaya Toure predictably netted to send City on their way to victory.

Mikel Alonso (4) also lost one point after lining up in the Sunderland defence which was hit for five by Tottenham.

There was bad news for Southampton and Jay Rodriguez (5.5) on Saturday with the forward stretchered off with a knee injury that will keep him out of the World Cup. The 24-year-old, playing in front of Roy Hodgson, suffered a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament and will be out of action for six months.

He is not the only player to receive such a blow, either, with Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke (8) also ruled out of the World Cup after rupturing his Achilles tendon in training last week.

Meanwhile, a toe problem meant Wayne Rooney (8.5) missed Manchester United's win over Newcastle with manager David Moyes yet to confirm when he will return. Team-mate Ashley Young (7) also picked up an injury on Saturday, having to be replacing after just 18 minutes with a hand injury.

Finally, Mathieu Flamini's (5.5) yellow card against Everton is his tenth of the season, meaning a two-game ban - although one of those will include the FA Cup semi-final against Wigan.
