He might not have expected it after that early red card for Vincent Kompany but a clean sheet took David Silva (9) over the line to be this week's most outstanding player, to go alongside his fabulous goal and assist for Manchester City against Hull City. It has been a fairly nondescript season on the fantasy front for the Spaniard but the 19.54 per cent of managers who selected him had their faith justified by a match-winning performance.
Not far behind was Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard (8), who would have been on top but for that missed penalty when a spot-kick hat-trick was on the cards against Manchester United. Still, two goals and a clean sheet is a great return, giving the Reds star 10 points.
Up front, two slightly cheaper options proved the best buys in Gameweek 30. Peter Odemwingie (5) made his biggest impact yet as a Stoke City player with two goals in their victory over West Ham, taking hope another 10.
Meanwhile, at St Mary's Stadium, Rickie Lambert (7) only needed 34 second-half minutes to make his presence felt, bagging a goal with his first involvement and then setting up an assist. The Southampton forward is now up to 111 for the season.
There were more bargain options excelling at the other end of the pitch. Seamus Coleman (4.5) picked up another goal in a fantastic season, sinking Cardiff City at the death and adding eight more points to his tally.
At Villa Park, Chelsea were undone by Fabian Delph's goal but Brad Guzan (4.5) was the week's most notable keeper for his vital and unexpected clean sheet.
|GAMEWEEK 30 DREAM TEAM
There were several notable red cards in Gameweek 30, two of which contributed to the worst individual scores of the round. Nemanja Vidic (5.5) takes the cake for a terrible -3, conceding a penalty at the same time as earning his red dragging his tally even further down, a return of just 45 for the season doing no justice to the 15.06% of teams who selected him.
As with the Manchester United defender, City counterpart Kompany (6.5) suffered a dismissal, this one much earlier, even if it did not blow his side's hopes. The Belgian's bringing down of Nikica Jelavic saw him lose two points for the week.
There were disappointments both foreseeable and surprising on the south coast. Despite a four-goal performance from the Saints, Adam Lallana (6) failed to live up to his high standards on Saturday and was quickly replaced by the decisive Lambert, with only a point for participation to his name. Norwich City goalkeeper John Ruddy (4.5), on the other hand, got the harsh treatment that Goal's preview feared as he let in four goals for a zero-point game.
Though he came close to getting on the scoresheet, it was not a remarkable week for Christian Benteke (8) on the fantasy front as Aston Villa's midfielders did the real damage. A booking meant only one point for the striker against Chelsea.
At Goodison Park, meanwhile, Cardiff full-back Kevin Theophile-Catherine (4) was the worst sufferer of an unfortunate defeat, his yellow card and two goals conceded amounting to no points whatsoever.
There were, of course, two more red cards at Stamford Bridge, with both Willian (8.5) and Ramires (6) set to miss games, though one might be more serious than the other. The former Anzhi Makhachkala attacking midfielder was spared a negative score thanks to not having been on the pitch when Delph's goal went in - his team-mate, however, ends the week a point lighter.
Another suspension was incurred in Wales, where West Brom defender Jonas Olsson (4.5) picked up his 10th yellow card of the season and thereby ruled himself out of the Baggies' next two games. Luckily for fantasy managers, he has not been a prolific scorer in 2013-14.
Finally, those hoping for a renaissance from Steven Fletcher (7) will have to wait longer as the Sunderland striker was withdrawn at half-time against Crystal Palace and is set to face several weeks on the sidelines with an ankle injury.
