Hughton took up several coaching positions, including assistant and caretaker manager roles, during 14 years at White Hart Lane, and he worked closely with Sherwood for four years after the midfielder joined from Blackburn in 1999.

And Hughton says he always saw Sherwood as somebody who would have a career in football after hanging up his boots: "Tim was there when I was a coach during Glenn Hoddle's time," he said.
"He had been the captain at Blackburn before he came, he he was somebody who thought about the game, had good opinions on the game and he was somebody you thought would stay in the game.
"If I look at his short period in management so far he has taken to it very well, he has got a super group of players to work with, but with that also comes difficulties of picking teams and trying to pick winning teams. At this moment he has done very, very well."
