Cech: Momentum key for Chelsea in title race

Jose Mourinho's side sit at the top of the Premier League table after Arsenal and Manchester City dropped points and the goalkeeper is keen to only focus on the Blues' performances
Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech has underlined the importance of maintaining momentum after going top of the Premier League standings.

An Eden Hazard hat-trick saw the Blues down Newcastle United on Saturday, with Arsenal losing 5-1 at Liverpool and Manchester City being held to a 0-0 draw at Norwich City.

6/5 Chelsea are 6/5 with William Hill to win the Premier League
Jose Mourinho's side, therefore, sit lead the title charge for the first time this season and Cech has urged his team-mates to now focus on their own performances and not those of their rivals.

"If you are ahead, you know that if you keep winning nobody can catch you. If you are behind, you know you have to be winning and hope that everybody slips up," he told the Daily Mirror.

"Being in first I would say you are in the better position because you still have to win all the games but you don't have to look back if you keep doing that.

"When you are part of it, you are just concentrating on making sure you are not the one dropping points. That is the main target and we have got a very good run of games where we want to carry the momentum."

Chelsea are currently enjoying a 10-game unbeaten run in the Premier League, winning eight, but Cech knows that there is still work to be done with with Arsenal and Manchester City just one and two points behind.

"We know nothing is done yet. We haven't won anything yet and there is still a long, long way to go. But once you go top, you know if you win every game you have a big chance to achieve what you want.

"We are aware of the quality of the sides around us and know one little moment when you fall asleep and you can be back behind again. We would like to stay on top as long as we can."
