The Montenegro international says that he had the chance to join Los Blancos in the summer but opted for Manuel Pellegrini's side instead when he left Fiorentina

Manchester City forward Stevan Jovetic has revealed that he turned down a move to Real Madrid in favour of joining Manuel Pellegrini's side.

The Montenegro international moved to the Etihad Stadium from Fiorentina ahead of the 2013-14 season and initially struggled to make an impact as he was hindered by injuries.

The 24-year-old has played more of a part of late, though, featuring in all of City's last four games and scoring his first Premier League goal in the 5-1 rout of Tottenham on January 29.

"There was also Real Madrid, but I chose City," Jovetic told beINSport of his summer options.

"I decided to come here because this is a major project with many players. I should have come here the year before but I had a nice season with [Vincenzo] Montella and Fiorentina."

City are still chasing success on four fronts this season and the attacker hopes that he can now put his challenging start behind him as he looks to help his team-mates in the quest for silverware.

"Sure, these four to five months at the beginning were difficult because I was not playing," the 24-year-old remarked. "Then I often got injured but now it is all behind me.

"I never doubted myself, even in the most difficult moments. I knew I could play in this team and now I have to prove it."
