Chelsea - West Ham Betting Preview: Lampard to get the ball rolling in an easy victory

The England midfielder relishes clashes with his former club, and Al Hain-Cole expects him to score the first of many in a comfortable win for Jose Mourinho's men
Chelsea will be looking to extend their winning streak to eight games when they welcome West Ham to Stamford Bridge on Wednesday.

Having beaten Liverpool and Manchester United in their last two Premier League fixtures on home turf, Jose Mourinho’s men are clear 1/5 (1.20) favourites with Paddy Power to collect maximum points against their struggling opponents.

The Hammers have not won on this ground in over a decade and are 12/1 (13.00) outsiders to end that hoodoo given their current poor form.

It is five years since the visitors gained so much as a point in west London, but you can get odds of 6/1 (7.00) on them claiming a precious draw this evening.

The Blues ran out comfortable 3-0 winners when these sides met at Upton Park in November, a 12th victory in 15 games against their fellow capital side, having lost just once in that period.

That result was particularly important for Mourinho, coming as it did after his side had narrowly avoided a second consecutive Premier League defeat thanks to a controversial late penalty in a 2-2 draw at home to West Brom.

Fortunately for the Portuguese boss they were up against a team freshly deprived of influential centre-back Winston Reid, who had marshalled the defence to a record of just eight goals conceded in the opening 10 league fixtures.

Without him Sam Allardyce’s outfit let in three against a low-scoring Norwich side before leaking the same number to Chelsea, commencing a defensive crisis that has seen them concede 25 goals in their last 12 league games.

Meanwhile, tonight’s hosts have collected 28 points from a possible 33 since that meeting, scoring over two goals a game and hitting the back of the net three times or more on four separate occasions.

With this in mind, odds of 5/6 (1.83) therefore seem rather generous on West Ham’s fragile back four being breached on at least three occasions this evening, as they have in seven of their last nine fixtures.

Frank Lampard struck twice in that 3-0 victory to make it five goals in his last five games against his former club, much to the disgust of the baying home crowd.

The midfielder has made a habit of coming back to haunt the team where he made his name, and is well worth backing at 5/1 (6.00) to open the scoring for the sixth time in this fixture.
