Stoke's Assaidi hoping Chelsea winner can lead to regular role

The Moroccan winger, on loan at the Britannia Stadium from Liverpool, netted in the Potters' 3-2 win over Jose Mourinho's side and is eager to be handed more starts
Oussama Assaidi is hoping that his match-winning strike against Chelsea will grant him more game time at Stoke City.

The Moroccan winger has been used sparingly since joining the Potters on loan from Liverpool in the summer, only appearing six times in the Premier League.

But after replacing Glenn Whelan late on against Chelsea he curled in his first Premier League goal for Stoke, and Assaidi is now eyeing a more regular role in the side.

11/1 Oussama Assaidi is 11/1 with BetVictor to open the scoring against Hull City
“I played quite a lot of football last week; 90 minutes against Everton and 90 minutes against Cardiff City and then some time against Chelsea,” he told the club's official website.

“I hope I get more minutes, of course. I think I did quite well and I’ve come to Stoke to play, so hopefully I’ll get more starts.”

The former Heerenveen man scored his only other goal in Stoke colours against Birmingham City in the Capital One Cup, but Assaidi preferred his effort against Jose Mourinho's side.

“The goal against Birmingham was pretty similar,” he reflected. “But I prefer the one against Chelsea because it came against such a big team.

“I got the ball from Stephen Ireland and was one-on-one with a Chelsea player. When I’m in that situation, I like to cut inside and on this occasion I decided to have a shot and it went into the top corner.

“We needed the points and hopefully beating a big team like Chelsea will give us lots of confidence for the future.”
