The Frenchman admitted he still considers the striker "an Arsenal man", but his Red Devils counterpart was quick to remind him of his success at Old Trafford last season

David Moyes has hit back at Arsene Wenger's comments about Robin van Persie still being an "Arsenal man", reminding the Gunners boss that the Dutchman won the title with Manchester United.

The striker moved to Old Trafford in a deal worth £24 million last summer after announcing his intention to leave north London, disagreeing with the direction of the club under Wenger and chief executive Ivan Gazidis.

Van Persie is set to face Arsenal - currently top of the table - on Sunday, but Wenger insists he still considers his former player "an Arsenal man" after eight seasons at the Emirates Stadium.

The Netherlands international joined United and won the Premier League in his first season having failed to lift the title in an Arsenal shirt - and Moyes was quick to remind Wenger of the Dutchman's trophy success at his pre-match press conference.

"He started in England at Arsenal but won the title here," Moyes told reporters. "I think people in Manchester see him as a Manchester United player."

Van Persie notched 132 goals during his time at the Emirates Stadium - becoming the club's eighth all-time top scorer - and carried his good form to his new club with 30 goals under Sir Alex Ferguson.
