'It would have been madness' - Walters glad Shane Long's West Brom exit was cancelled

The Republic of Ireland international was set to join Hull City Tigers in a £5 million deal deadline-day move, only for Steve Clarke to change his mind at the last minute
Jon Walters believes West Brom boss Steve Clarke letting striker Shane Long join Hull City Tigers "would have been madness".

The Republic of Ireland international had agreed to join the newly promoted side before a sudden change of heart from the Baggies manager has seen him stay at the Hawthorns.

5/4 Shane Long is 5/4 with Coral to be West Brom's top scorer this season
And Walters, who is currently on international duty with Long, does not expect the striker's confidence to be affected by the collapse.

"It would have been madness for West Brom to let him go in the first place. Maybe it's not what the manager wanted," Walter told told the Daily Mail.

"Shane is happy. He's been doing pretty well there in the last couple of years and I expect it will continue that way. There's no problem with him at all. Back to the same old Shane today."

Long has played 70 games for West Brom since his move from Reading, scoring 19 goals.
