Southampton striker Mayuka targets first team role

The Zambian forward has made just 11 appearances for Saints since joining last summer and is targeting greater involvement under Mauricio Pochettino next season
Emmanuel Mayuka is aiming to break into the Southampton first team this term after enjoying a full pre-season.

The Zambia international struggled to make an impact after joining from Swiss club Young Boys in August, making just 11 appearances with only one start.

Between December and April the 22-year-old failed to make a single appearance but did come off the bench in the final four games of the season.

And the striker is hoping to make more of an impact in the 2013-14 campaign.

"Last season I wasn't here for pre-season and the start of the season but this year it's good because I'm settled with the team," he told the club's official website.

"I would like to keep on working hard like I did towards the end of last season.

"I want to build on that so I am looking forward to starting more games, scoring goals and helping the team in every way that I can.

"I have to keep going and to keep working hard by playing more and more games so I will be back in good shape and fully-fit. That's what I'm waiting for."
